January Cancer Awareness Month Introduction

Welcome to January Cancer Awareness Month

This month aims to raise awareness about cervical cancer. According to the latest data published by the World Health Organisation (WHO), cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women. In 2022, there were 660,000 new cases and approximately 350,000 deaths.

Cervical cancer can arise in the female reproductive system specifically in the cervix where it opens into the vagina. It is estimated that 99% of cases is caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) which can commonly spread via skin contact during interaction. The HPV infection can be prevented easily through early screening and vaccinations. Screening typically begins at the age of 30. Vaccinations usually start between 9 and 14 years old.

Our posters are designed by our team of volunteers whose aim is to help the general public understand about this particular cancer through interactive images, informative content and quizzes. It serves as an educational tool with referenced factual information to support your learning.

The posters are FREE for the general public to easily download, share across social media or to be used within teaching lessons.

If you experience any signs or symptoms, please contact your healthcare professional as they have your clinical history and are able to guide you further.
