Aim: To define what an MRI scan is and introduce the main components found in the MRI scan. To introduce the historical development of the MRI scan. To understand what a magnet is and types of magnets found in an MRI scan. To review the properties of the MRI scan. To provide examples of scans and how it can be used to detect specific types of cancers. To review some of the types of MRI namely functional MRI and Magnetic Resonance Angiography and their purposes. To review how MRI scans work and the purpose of contrast agents. To provide insight into the preparation and process of the MRI scans. To introduce novel developments of the MRI scans.
