Lecture Seventeen: Cancer Waiting Times And Programmes To Diagnose Cancer Early.

Aim: To review the importance of early diagnosis and the aim of NHS Long-term Plan 2028 to improve diagnosis and survival rates. To define the purpose of the Cancer Waiting Times (CWT) and initial targets for diagnosis and treatment and how it varies per country within the British Isles. To discuss the psychological status upon waiting for results and the techniques to perform reverse or positive psychology. To provide an overview of the advantages of CWT. To define other techniques to diagnose cancer early: Faster Diagnostic Standards (FDS), Rapid Diagnostic Centres and Be Clear On Cancer. To discuss the importance of partnerships such as Network contract-directed enhanced service (DES). An insight into primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare services and the importance of the healthcare team.
