About the Campaign
The #CloseTheCareGap campaign organized by World Cancer Day took place between 2022 and 2024 to raise awareness of the importance of equity and equality in cancer care. There is a fundamental difference between the two concepts. Equality is the even distribution of resources particularly access to healthcare. Equity is the just behaviour avoiding differences in care or clinical outcomes, for instance, gender, age, race, and other sociodemographic factors.

Around 50% of the world’s population does not have access to adequate health services because of the equity gap despite advancements in research and technology. In 2022, the WCD objective was to realize the problem of the difference between inequity and inequality and how it affects wellbeing. In 2023, the WCD aims to unite voices and take action by celebrating progress. In 2024, the aim was to challenge leading powers to remove inequity.

What did FST do to support the cause?
As part of the WCD’s campaign, the FST aimed to raise awareness of these differences to support the cause by designing posters emphasizing World Cancer Day objectives for the campaign, factors that affect the equity cap, and encouraging the general public to partake in their activities in our network. In 2023, our volunteers also used their creativity to dedicate a poem to the cause.
The campaign has ended for WCD but is an ongoing journey of evaluation, reflection, and positive change.
