About the Campaign
Cancer is the second leading cause of death. The World Cancer Day campaign ‘I Am and I Will’ was presented between 2019 and 2021. It aimed to ensure that the global community whether a patient, carer, relative, healthcare professional, or the general public is able to access accurate information about cancer. This will solidify their commitment to learning, lower the risk of misconceptions, and improve survival rates.
Each of us knows at least one person who has undergone diagnosis, recovery, or passed away from cancer. Seeking an understanding of what cancer is, awareness of its signs and symptoms, how blood cancers and other types are detected, and the wide range of available treatments under the NHS depending on the cancer stage and grade.
“Information is just bits of data. Knowledge is putting them together. Wisdom is transcending them.”
Ram Dass
What did FST do to support the cause?
The webinar ‘Discover Cancer’ was co-organized with Health Professionals of Yemen in collaboration with FST on 4th February 2021. The host was Shreen Mahmood from Muslims Connect Radio. The speakers included Dr Wesam Al-Sakkaf (HPY) and Dr Hafsa Waseela Abbas (FST) to extract some of their knowledge and experience within the field. The lecture aimed to define cancer, determine the impact coronavirus had on cancer care and review how blood cancers and other types of cancer are detected and treated. A fundraiser for the MacMillan Cancer Support charity was organized. MacMillan supports cancer patients, their families, and community members in the UK through information, training, advice, and research. This includes fulfilling the holistic needs such as physical, emotional and other forms of support for the patient and their families.
