World Cancer Research Day (2024)

In 2024, the theme focused by World Cancer Research Day is “Innovation In Cancer Research Drives Progress Toward Health Equity”. The quest to seek novel diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative strategies helps increase survival rates and improve the quality of life, and raising awareness can be achieved in a wide range of techniques to achieve health equity in cancer care. Similar to the objectives of World Cancer Day, they are on the verge of including policymakers, and technology giants to further enhance pathology services, and develop application programs to lower the psychosocial impact of cancer screening and testing and other measures to achieve this goal.

What has FST done to support the cause?

The FST has organized a four-week FREE educational course titled ‘Understanding Cancer Season Two Special Edition’ for the public to raise awareness on how cells communicate and how they can cause cancer when they become dysregulated. Examples of cancers and an insight into the latest research are presented. This is a form of equity because how information is communicated can allow ALL to learn about cancer. The interplay between genetics and environmental risk factors that develop malignancy is apparent. Some genes are involved in regulating the transcription of the genes. Other genes are involved in cell cycle control and DNA repair. The four main signaling pathways discussed in the course are: Nrf2, p53, Hippo, and Hedgehog. Illustrations designed by the author, a glossary, and a comprehensive reference list in each lecture aim to support the learner. The lecture series is on demand and is FREE to use.
